Walk: Inverkip to Lunderston Bay

This walk got off to a difficult start as the 906 bus from Largs did not run at the appointed time due to an earlier breakdown. In the event only three of us made it, George, Douglas and Phil. We managed to all get on the same bus at different stops, even allowing for Phil catching a 901 bus towards Largs to meet George in time for the 906.

We walked from Inverkip Main Street, over the foot bridge, past the Kip Marina and through Kip Village to get to the coastal path. We then had a pleasant, but windy walk along by the water to Lunderston Bay, which is advertised as Glasgow’s nearest sandy beach. Great for a picnic, making sand castles on the beach, enjoying the sea air, coastal views and walks.

We enjoyed the sea air, but obviously not the weather for sand castles, so we crossed the road to Cardwell Garden Centre where we lunched – Douglas and Phil falling for Pie, beans and chips.

We then caught the 901 bus back towards Largs. If all our walkers had been able to come we could have been a group of 9 or so; with the weather improving and reliable transport, perhaps we will manage a larger group next time.
