Putting Competitions
The Club has two putting trophies that are played for each year. The first is played for in late May or early June sometimes we go abroad to Millport to play for this one, last year we played at Barrfields putting green. The second one is played in August or early September and is played at Barrfields. Both are well attended.
Our first putting competition of 2023 was played on 14th June, where 18 Probus members went overseas to Millport on the Isle of Cumbrae. It was a glorious hot day. We all met at Largs Pier to catch the 9.45am ferry to Cumbrae slip. Onward to Millport town centre by bus with all but one using our bus passes. Then a short walk uphill to Millport Bowling Club. There was plenty of iced cold water available during our 18 hole round of putting. Three members each achieved a hole in 1, with scores of 42. Four members were runners up with each scoring 42. The winner of the competition Gordon Law achieved the lowest score of 41 including a hole in 1. Past President Chris Holt won a glass egg cup for the highest score, while the winners received miniature bottles of whisky. Millport Bowling Club served us with Tea/Coffee and biscuits in the Club House after the putting. which was very much appreciated.
