The lifesaving benefits of HeartStart were evident at the recent meeting of Largs Probus Club when Thom Williamson, Irene Rafferty and Alistair Brown provided the members with training on how to recognise a cardiac arrest, in basic life support (CPR) and the use of a defibrillator.
The members were given the opportunity to practise with a defibrillator and CPR on modern manikins, with a forehead that lights up to indicate that each compression is effective.
Training was also given on basic emergency life support, such as recognition of a heart attack and choking affecting adults, children and babies.
HeartStart is a charity which complies with the training guidelines of the British Heart Foundation and the Resuscitation Council UK.
The members found the training session to be fun and informative and a collection was taken in support of the charity.
Ray Young thanked Thom, Irene and Alister for their dedication and the valuable work they do as volunteers to impart lifesaving information to the public.
