EDINBURGH Tattoo

On Friday 18th August a group of 14 Probus members and guests travelled to Edinburgh by coach to attend a performance of the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo which took place as usual on the Edinburgh Castle Esplanade.

The coach left Largs at 2.00pm and we had an easy trip through to Edinburgh although finding somewhere to stop near the castle to let us off was a challenge. We had time to have a meal in one of the many nearby restaurants before the show and didn’t have to queue for too long to be admitted to the arena. Our seats were near the front of the stand which afforded us an excellent close up view of the performers and most of the display action took place right in front of us.

The theme for this year’s Tattoo was “stories”, and featured more than 800 performers, including guest stars from Australia, Norway, Switzerland, Trinidad and Tobago, and the United States.

Michael Braithwaite, the creative director said “’Stories’ builds on our ‘Voices’ show of 2022 and promises a captivating celebration of connection through stories in all their forms. “Most of all, ‘Stories’ is a shared opportunity for audiences and performers to come together and experience an evening of unique and immersive entertainment. “’Stories’ is the next chapter in the modern era of the tattoo, packed with the latest in cutting-edge technology, whilst combining the tradition and precision the show is known for and loved. “At its heart, ‘Stories’ celebrates the journey of individuals from many diverse backgrounds, and unity through common experiences.”

It certainly was just as we expected and we all returned home with happy memories of a very enjoyable night in the open air without any need for waterproofs !
