Slightly late, on the 5th February, Largs Probus Club held their Burns Luncheon. 43 Members, and guests attended at the Willowbank Hotel in Largs, with the majority of people having Cock-a-Leekie soup, followed by Haggis, Neeps and Tatties; although there were a number of takers for a delicious looking Steak and Sausage pie.

Bill Young gave an excellent rendition of the Address to the Haggis, and “trench’d its gushing entrails bright.”
Everyone patiently waiting to be served.

Top table served first, very properly.

After the meal we were treated to a Toast the Lassies, given by Christopher Hoult. He gave himself quite a challenge as he took as his theme ‘Getting inside a Woman’s Mind.’ It was insightful and very amusing, but showed that they are smarter than us men. Apologies Christopher, I was so engrossed, I forgot to take a photo of you, other than you eating your haggis.
And so to the main speech as Roddy Eunson, our President, introduces Jimmy Law to give the Immortal Memory.

Jimmy was soon in full swing and treated us to some amusing anecdotes, some lesser known facts about the humanity of Burns and, of course, some examples of Burns’ poetry.

A great end to a very pleasant lunchtime. Thank you everyone for coming, it wouldn’t have been the same without you.
After reading this, perhaps you fancy joining our club, or just coming to see what it’s like. New members are always welcomed at the Club. If you are 50 or over, retired, or nearing retirement, (men only, I’m afraid) you can attend three meetings as a guest and find out what a relaxed and friendly time we have. That’s plenty of time to decide whether to become a Club member or not. Please check out our programme and then use our Contact Form if you wish to attend as a guest, or to enquire about joining.
Largs Probus Club will next meet in the Willowbank Hotel on Wednesday 12th February, Sandra Salvona will give us a talk mysteriously entitled Home in Stead.
